Finally – The (Blog) Journey Begins
I have been thinking and planning and to start a blog for – well years – and finally taking baby steps towards setting up over the past few months – I’m not sure where this will go but I think it’s more about the journey and having an outlet that will be fun.
I’m really fortunate to have had a lot of the experiences in my life and be surrounded by a large extended group of family, friends and business and community contacts who are inspirational and down to earth at the same time. I have been touched by having a daughter born with Down Syndrome and thanks to Kate’s amazing mother & brother the journey is that much more special.
Then there are the Merrymakers, St Lucy’s, St Edmunds, Beaumont Road Primary School, Special Olympics Sydney Upper North Shore & Hills Districts, St Ives Junior AFL Club, North Shore Bombers AFL Club, Lifestart, North Sydney Boys High School – community based schools & clubs that have enriched our lives.
Life has taught me many lessons – often learnt more from the mistakes – but life is all about what you make of your situation. I used to define myself by what I achieved in business – for 17 years involved in my own business. I’m still passionate about what I do – but ultimately for me it’s about being creative and innovative and listening and learning and then doing what I can to help others – trust and loyalty and valued relationships are my key drivers. I love using the art and skills of customer centric selling to achieve great outcomes so for me CRM and how to apply it in alignment with ERP and sales, marketing and customer services processes is really challenging and immensely rewarding – and fun.
And then there’s sport and being active and healthy – the Sydney Swans, the SANFL Eagles and everything AFL – but more generally I have seen through Special Olympics how sport can touch lives, build teamwork, increase self-esteem so important for people with an intellectual disability to really feel an accepted, valuable part of the community.
Bring it on … whatever it is!
